How do I set up and send SMS text messages?

The steps below show you how you can set up an SMS provider in User Defaults, to send text messages to a contact. Through CFPwinMan, you will be able to:

  • Identify which SMS providers integrate with CFPwinMan
  • Select SMS providers who use Email or HTML
  • Add the details of your SMS provider in to User Defaults
  • Set up individual contacts to SMS as their Delivery Type

Setting up SMS provider and preferences

 Note

You will need access to User Defaults, to edit your default settings. These can be accessed by those who have the correct permissions

  1. Click Defaults on the main toolbar
  2. Click User Defaults from the dropdown menu
  3. Click Preferences
  4. Click Email/SMS Defaults
  5. The SMS/Email Defaults display
  6. Account Details:
    1. Service Provider -Select your SMS provider from the dropdown menu
    2. View the Service Providers which are configured to work with CFPwinMan. Some providers use HTTP and some use Email as a means of sending an SMS message. Providers using Email, those messages save to the History Log
    3. Select the relevant option. This will update the list of providers in step 1
    4. The remaining options in this section are compatible with multiple SMS providers. Some may require all fields completing, others may not. Complete the fields that correspond to your providers, account information, for example. Most will require an Account Log In and Password, but not all will need A/C or Company completing
  7. Click X to save and close
  8. Click Close
  9. Click Close again

Automatic default messages

There are a number of automatic default SMS messages already set up in User Defaults.

  • SMS message for landlord payments
  • SMS message for contractor payments
  • SMS message for matches results
  • SMS message for match results single property
  • SMS message for works orders

These can be edited ad hoc as the SMS is being sent, or, the default message can be changed permanently in the user default settings.

Setting up contacts to SMS

Providing your contact has a valid mobile phone number, you can select their Delivery Type as SMS. Alternatively, you can send an SMS ad hoc when the Send Options appear.

  1. Search for the relevant contact Information record
  2. Click the Preference Centre tab
  3. Mobile Phone Format - Select SMS
  4. Delivery Type - Tick SMS
  5. Click the disk icon, Save this record on the toolbar

If you're in the Tenancy Information at step 2 above, click the SMS/Email tab, to view the Delivery Type.
